ISSPIT 2012 will include state-of-the-art oral, poster sessions, and tutorials related to the key areas outlined below. Accepted papers will be published in the Proceedings of IEEE ISSPIT 2012.

Keynote Speakers

We are please to announce the following confirmed keynote speakers for ISSPIT 2012:

  1. Albert Y. Zomaya, Professor and Director, Centre for Distributed & High Performance Computing, School of Information Technologies, The University of Sydney, Australia

    Topic: Environmentally Sustainable Large Scale Distributed Systems

    Global warming and climate change trends call for urgent action to manage information and communication technologies in a sustainable manner by minimizing energy consumption and utilizing resources more efficiently. Distributed computing environments have become the de facto platforms for many applications. These systems bring a range of heterogeneous resources that should be able to function continuously and autonomously. However, distributed systems expend a lot of energy which raises a range of important research issues related to the use and virtualisation of ICT resources in a way offers significant potential to contribute to the goal of what has been described as ‘green computing’. This talk will review some of the important questions related to the development of new algorithms and tools for energy–aware resource management allocation for large–scale distributed systems enabling these systems to become environmentally friendly.

    Albert Y. ZOMAYA is currently the Chair Professor of High Performance Computing & Networking and Australian Research Council Professorial Fellow in the School of Information Technologies, The University of Sydney. He is also the Director of the Centre for Distributed and High Performance Computing which was established in late 2009. Professor Zomaya is the author/co-author of seven books, more than 400 papers, and the editor of nine books and 11 conference proceedings. He is the Editor in Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Computers and serves as an associate editor for 19 leading journals. Professor Zomaya is the recipient of the Meritorious Service Award (in 2000) and the Golden Core Recognition (in 2006), both from the IEEE Computer Society. Also, he received the IEEE TCPP Outstanding Service Award and the IEEE TCSC Medal for Excellence in Scalable Computing, both in 2011. Professor Zomaya is an ACM Distinguished Speaker, a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of AAAS, IEEE, IET (U.K.), and a Distinguished Engineer of the ACM.

  2. Sanguthevar Rajasekaran, UTC Chair Professor of Computer Science and Engineering and the Director of Booth Engineering Center for Advanced Technologies at the University of Connecticut

    Topic: Big Data: Challenges and Techniques

    We live in en era of big data. Voluminous datasets are generated and have to be processed in every area of science and engineering. Efficienttechniques are needed to process these data. In particular, we needtools to extract useful information from massive data sets. Societyat large can benefit immensely from advances in this arena. Forexample, information extracted from biological data can result in geneidentification, diagnosis for diseases, drug design, etc. Market-datainformation can be used forcustom-designed catalogues for customers, supermarket shelving, and soon. Weather prediction and protecting the environment from pollutionare possible with the analysis of atmospheric data. In this talk we present some challenges existing in processing big data in various disciplines. We also provide an overview of some basic techniques. In particular, we will summarize various data processing and reduction techniques.

    Sanguthevar Rajasekaran received his M.E. degree in Automation from the Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore) in 1983, and his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Harvard University in 1988. Currently he is the UTC Chair Professor of Computer Science and Engineering and the Director of Booth Engineering Center for Advanced Technologies at the University of Connecticut. Before joining UConn, he has served as a faculty member in the CISE Department of the University of Florida and in the CIS Department of the University of Pennsylvania. During 2000-2002 he was the Chief Scientist for Arcot Systems. His research interests include Bioinformatics, Parallel Algorithms, Data Mining, Randomized Computing, Computer Simulations, and Combinatorial Optimization. He has published over 250 articles in journals and conferences. He has co-authored two texts on algorithms and co-edited five books on algorithms and related topics. He is an elected member of the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering. He is also a Fellow of the IEEE and a Fellow of the AAAS.

  3. Ðinh Dũng, Professor, Information Technology Institute, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Vietnam

    Topic: Dualization of Signal Recovery Problems

    Over the years, several structured frameworks have been proposed to unify the analysis and the numerical solution methods of signal (including image) recovery problems. In convex optimization, duality theory can sometimes lead to simpler solution methods than those resulting from direct primal analysis. We propose an approach of the principle of convex duality which is applied to a class of composite variational problems arising particularly in signal recovery. These problems are not easily amenable to solution by current methods but they feature Fenchel–Moreau–Rockafellar dual problems that can be solved by a forward-backward splitting algorithm. The proposed algorithm produces simultaneously a sequence converging weakly to a dual solution, and a sequence converging strongly to the primal solution. Our framework is shown to capture and extend several existing duality-based signal recovery methods and to be applicable to a variety of new problems beyond their scope.

    Ðinh Dũng received the BS, MS, PhD and DrSc in Mathematics from the Moscow Lomonosov State University. He has been appointed as a full professor at the Vietnam Academy of  Science  and Technology (VAST) and at  the Vietnam National University (VNU) from 1991. During 1993-1998 he was the director of the Division of Mathematical Aspects of Information Technology, Institute of Information Technology, VAST. During 1998-2001 he was the president of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Information Technology, VAST. During 2001-2008 he was the director of the Information Technology Institute, VNU. Professor Ðinh Dũng  is the vice president of the Scientific Council of the Communication and Computer Sciences Division of the National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (Vietnam).  He is a member of the Computer Science Division of the National Council for Professor Appointment (Vietnam). He was a plenary speaker at the Third Asian Mathematical Conference, October 23-27, 2000, Manila, and an keynote and invited speaker in many conferences and workshops. He has published over 60 articles in journals.  He is a member of the Editorial Board of Vietnam Journal of Mathematics,  East Journal on Approximations and Southeast Asian Bulletin of Mathematics.
